Are you a Greek-based artist passionate about leveraging art to address pressing environmental challenges in waterfront cities? Join us in our Climate x Art initiative, Turning the Tide (TTT), which seeks to creatively respond to the climate crisis threatening waterfront communities. 

Through this unique residency opportunity, artists based in Greece will have the chance to contribute to a transdisciplinary dialogue and create tangible works of art that amplify local voices and raise awareness about climate issues.

About Turning the Tide (TTT):

TTT is an innovative project that harnesses the power of art to spark conversations and drive action on climate change and climate justice. By collaborating with socially engaged artists and local communities in four waterfront cities, TTT aims to explore the role of art in reshaping the narrative on climate issues.

Local Residency Details:

The local residency will last for 3 months, giving artists plenty of time for cultural mapping, research and the creation of artistic works in the digital realm.

The artists are specifically invited to work 30 days, spread over a period of three months (02/05/2024-03/08/2024), offering flexibility.

Expectations and Engagement:

Participating artists will be expected to fully commit to the Local Urban Labs (LUL) programme and deliver presentations and visual outputs of their residency in digital format, inspired by their experiences and insights.

Greek artists participating in the residency are expected to produce tangible artistic works that reflect their engagement with the local context and climate-related themes. These works will be showcased on the project's website and social media channels, providing a cohesive platform for artists to share their perspectives with a global audience.

Additionally, artists will actively participate in online meetings before, during, and after the residency to receive feedback and guidance on their work. At least one webinar will be organised to also make a digital dialogue possible between local and international participants. There will also be roundtables and workshops with the local community in Evoia, for artists to familiarise themselves with the area and better comprehend the damages of the storms and floods. 

This prestigious opportunity offers two Greek-based artists the chance to immerse themselves in their craft amidst the vibrant cultural landscape of Evoia, while contributing to a collective dialogue on climate change and environmental justice.

Selected artists will receive the following:

✧ Cash Award: Each resident will receive a participation fee of €3,000, plus a further €600 that covers all materials.

✧ Participation in Online Exhibition: Artists will get to showcase their artwork to a global audience through an online exhibition, amplifying their voice on climate change.

✧ Media Exposure: Participants will gain exposure through media channels, sharing their perspectives and artistic vision with a broader audience.

✧ Networking and Educational Opportunities: Opportunity to engage in workshops, discussions, and networking events with fellow artists, scholars, and activists.

✧ Community Engagement: Participating in the Local Urban Labs and community events, will allow artists to foster meaningful connections and collaboration.

✧ Professional Development: Through diverse cultural experiences and exchange, selected artists will have the opportunity to enhance their artistic practice and broaden their horizons.

✧ Sign Up and Create Your Portfolio: Register on our platform and craft your artist portfolio. Provide essential details such as your name, contact information, social media profiles, and a brief artist biography. This allows us to gain insight into your background and artistic journey.

✧ Submit Your Artwork: Select artworks that resonate with the theme of environmental consciousness, social engagement and climate justice. For each piece, offer a thoughtful and detailed description, including the title, medium used, and dimensions of the work. This information provides context and insight into your artistic process.

✧ Expand Your Portfolio: While your primary submission holds significance, our jury seeks to understand your artistic practice holistically. Upload additional artworks to your portfolio. These can include pieces that align with the theme or showcase different facets of your artistic expression. This enables the jury to grasp your overall style and thematic interests.

✧ Showcase Thoughtful Creativity: When choosing which artworks to submit, consider how each piece reflects your unique interpretation of the theme. Prioritize the quality and impact of your work. Select pieces that demonstrate your skill, creativity, and ability to engage and inspire change.

Our jury will review submitted works on a daily basis. If shortlisted for this opportunity, we will contact you directly and request additional information, such as a cover letter, full portfolio, CV, and more.

1. This opportunity is exclusively open to Greek-based artists who aspire to contribute to our transformative initiative in addressing the climate crisis through art.

   TTT welcomes professional artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, including but not limited to visual arts, performance and multimedia.

2. Artists who wish to explore the intersection of art and environmental sustainability are encouraged to apply. The selection process will be collaborative, involving leading art organizations and curators from our partner organizations. The project partners will jointly assess each participant's application, ensuring a thorough evaluation process that considers all relevant factors.

8. Previous experience in similar projects focused on nature, ecology or socially engaged art will be valued.
