On this issue, we stand united. Together with all the artists who shared a piece of themselves via their creations, and with all those people who strive for the best version of the world we live in. This audiovisual issue comes as a collaboration with the “Kyiv Classic Orchestra” and its conductor, UNESCO’s Artist of Peace, Herman Makarenko. Herman and his team use music as means to send a message of hope and courage to anyone who is listening. Joining forces in the name of peace with these musicians is a nothing but a true honour. Sometimes words just fall short in capturing our response to atrocities unfolding right next to us. The aggressive and violent events of this past months in Ukraine have left the global population stunned, in disbelief. Many of us living in nations free of conflict never get to think what it would be like to be forcibly displaced from our homes, our lives, our loved ones. The right to a peaceful, secure life is one we don’t often question. It’s striking to witness reckless political aggression stripping this fundamental right from the Ukrainian population. It’s also striking to witness the helplessness of Russian communities who are strongly opposed to this aggression of their national leadership yet are stifled. The sheer courage coming through from the Ukrainian people is admirable. So is the commitment and the responsible action from their supporters worldwide. This power is deep - it gives hope, not only about the certainty of the outcome of this invasion, but rather about how we as humans are choosing to respond to these moments of collective crisis. What happens when we choose not to look the other way? And what could possibly happen when we look with intent, and with hope? We are inviting you to speak to this prompt. Not with words, but through your art. Express your thoughts and emotions about political conflict, the current crisis or none specific. Do you see with hope? Do you see with despair? Any emotional state is justified - and sharing them all in community is one of the great powers of art.
Join us in supporting the people of Ukraine by expressing your thoughts and emotions about the current political crisis through your art. We invite painters, illustrators, and 2D visual artists of all levels and backgrounds to participate in the 'World Stands with Ukraine' call for art. Share your artwork with our global community and help raise awareness and funds for those affected by the invasion.
To participate in the ‘World Stand with Ukraine’ call for art, sign up, create your portfolio, submit your work and give us the most precise description of it. Rather than focusing on a single submission, our jury team is always looking to find out more about every participating artist, so make sure you upload more of your work at your portfolio. Don’t just blindly apply - be thoughtful of the artwork you are submitting. Don’t forget to include the title, medium and dimensions. This call is open to painters, illustrators and 2D visual artists of all levels and backgrounds.
Our jury team, together with the team at Kyiv Classic Orchestra will carefully review each submission and select the top 80 outstanding entries to be featured in a special edition of our audio-visual publication, 'Voice of Artists,' Issue 15. The jury will be looking for impactful and thought-provoking artwork that best represents the theme of the call.
