Young individuals with mental disabilities often face significant barriers when transitioning from school to society. Communication skills, self-expression, and motivation can be challenging areas for them. These obstacles frequently result in their marginalization, affecting their access to education and personal development.
'The Unexpected Artrepreneur' project seeks to bridge this gap by creating tailored curricula and training programs. By leveraging the power of visual art, entrepreneurship, and technology, it aims to equip these young individuals with essential life skills. This approach not only fosters their self-expression but also enhances social innovation and participation.

The core concept driving this project is the fusion of art and entrepreneurship, aptly termed 'Artrepreneurship.' Visual art has the remarkable ability to transcend social and language barriers, making it a potent tool for fostering inclusive and tolerant societies. However, many individuals lack the technical skills and knowledge required to leverage the transformative power of art effectively.
'The Unexpected Artrepreneur' project aims to change that. By providing guidance and training to young people with mental disabilities, it empowers them to raise awareness, combat discrimination, and address various societal issues through creative and innovative artwork. In essence, it enables them to become active agents of social change. The project has the following three priorities:
✧ Inclusion and Diversity in Education: By designing specialized curricula, the project ensures that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Down's syndrome have access to art-entrepreneurship education opportunities.
✧ Common Values, Civic Engagement, and Participation: Through accessible materials and curricula, the project fosters social competences and media literacy, enabling young people with ASD/DS to engage with society actively.
✧ Promoting Active Citizenship: By developing art skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, the project encourages active citizenship among marginalized young people, empowering them to make positive contributions to their communities.
The project's multidimensional nature fosters the social inclusion of the main target group in the very process of acquiring skills and knowledge. The results of the project are tailor-made to meet the specific needs of people with DS/ASD and the professionals who support them. The 'Express Yourself' Toolkit, for instance, is designed to be an accessible digital tool that helps young people with ASD/DS create, express, and share their views through art, inspiring positive societal change and combating discrimination.

'The Unexpected Artrepreneur' project is not just about art; it's about empowering individuals, promoting inclusion, and driving social change. By equipping young people with mental disabilities with essential skills and tools, it paves the way for a brighter and more inclusive future. In a world where innovation and inclusion are the keys to progress, this project is a shining example of what can be achieved when art meets entrepreneurship. The journey is just beginning, and the possibilities are endless.
