Beyond Loss

This call for art invites artists from around the world to submit works that delve into the complex, often untold experiences of motherhood—including the experience of pregnancy loss. We are seeking submissions that shed light on both the personal and intimate aspects of pregnancy loss, as well as its broader societal and cultural implications. Artists are encouraged to create works that challenge traditional narratives, confront taboo subjects, and invite viewers to engage with the emotional depth of loss, healing, and resilience. Selected artists will be featured in the first edition of the Reflections book series, a new publication by Artit.

The first edition will focus on pregnancy loss, amplifying the voices of those who have experienced this often-silenced pain. We aim to create a space for reflection, empathy, and awareness, giving visibility to these deeply personal yet universal experiences. We welcome submissions in all mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital art, mixed media, and performance art documentation. This is more than just a call for art—it is a call for awareness, understanding, and empathy. By confronting difficult truths, we hope to foster conversation, a sense of community, and ultimately, change. This book series aims to challenge societal silence and create a space where art intersects with broader discussions about women’s health and empowerment, exploring the cultural and feminist dimensions of pregnancy and loss.

The work of the selected artists will be featured in the first edition of the Reflections series, a publication published by Artit, designed to provoke dialogue, challenge taboos, and raise awareness on sensitive social issues. These books aim to create meaningful conversations around topics often left unspoken.

The Reflections series is non-commercial and will primarily be released in a digital, open-access format, ensuring accessibility to a global audience. There will also be an option to print the publication if sponsored, allowing for a physical edition to be distributed in-person to key relevant stakeholders, organisations and other relevant people and organisations.

In addition to being featured in the publication, the selected artists will benefit from extensive promotional exposure through both the IASIS and Artit social media channels. This will allow their work to reach a broader audience, positioning them at the forefront of a critical, global conversation.

To apply for this free art opportunity, please follow these simple steps:

✧ Sign Up and Create an Artit Portfolio: Register on our platform and create your artist portfolio. Provide essential details such as your name, contact information, social media profiles, a website link - if available, and a brief artist biography. This allows us and the Iasis and Artit team to gain insight into your background and artistic journey.

✧ Submit Your Artwork: To apply, submit as many pieces of your work as you like. A variety of mediums are accepted, including written works (articles, poetry, reviews) and visual art (paintings, photographs, digital art). To upload any of the afformentioned works, please do it only through high resolution images - prefferably jpeg. Moreover, for each visual piece, please offer a thoughtful and detailed description. This information provides context and insight into your artistic process. More specifically, you’ll need to include each piece’s title, creation date, dimensions (in cm), medium used, price, and a short biography of no more than 150 words.  

✧ Mindful Selection: When choosing which artworks to submit, select pieces that prioritise the quality and impact of your work, and demonstrate your skill, creativity, and ability to engage and inspire viewers. Focus on your best works that you believe would make you stand out. 

✧ Expand Your Portfolio: Upload additional artwork to your portfolio, if you wish to give the Artit audience a better understanding of your overall artistic style, values, preferred thematic interests, etc. This is your chance to showcase different facets of your artistic expression and have all your work compiled in one place for everyone to see.

To ensure a fair and transparent selection process that aligns with the core values of identity and representation, contextual awareness, ethical considerations and cultural dialogue, we have implemented a thoughtful and rigorous evaluation system. Our team of professionals from Iasis and Artit team is dedicated to maintaining principles of equality, inclusivity, and sensitivity throughout the entire selection process. Every submitted artwork will be carefully reviewed and evaluated by our esteemed jury members, who have a deep understanding and appreciation for the theme of "Beyond Loss." They are committed to recognizing artworks that truly capture the emotional depth, complexity, and universality of grief, loss, and motherhood.

During the evaluation process, our team will assess each submission based on several key criteria. First and foremost, they will look for artistic excellence and originality. We believe that art has the profound ability to evoke emotions, challenge societal norms, and initiate meaningful dialogue. Therefore, we seek to honor works that demonstrate exceptional creativity and craftsmanship. Additionally, the team will evaluate the relevance of each artwork to the theme of pregnancy loss, grief, and healing. Artists are encouraged to explore personal interpretations and reflections on these themes, whether through intimate, personal narratives or broader cultural and societal contexts.

We value a diversity of perspectives and artistic expressions, and our jury will appreciate submissions that confront taboo subjects, shed light on hidden stories, and invite audiences to engage with the profound emotional experiences of loss. Whether your artwork speaks to individual pain or collective resilience, we welcome and celebrate all forms of artistic contributions.
